Things that disturbed me watching "300"
- war against Asia? (well.. call it "Persia".. It wasn't "Europe" vs "Asia".. :[ )
- Persia = Saurn in "The Lord of the Rings"? -,.-;
- Greece vs Persia = Rationalism vs Barbarianism? oh.. no.. way..
- WTF! Grenaders? It's BC 480 !! (well, let's forget about the 'beasts'....)


- Anyways, where are those "300" guys? I only see a platoon there.. not a battalion. (is this an "armour battalion" with about 40~50 units? ã…‹ã…‹.. well.. you still need at least 120~150 guys to operate them.)

Things that may disturb others although it didn't do so for me
- "Pro-War" (well... historically, it was actually "pro-war". so.. it's just being 'realistic'..)
- "Machoism" (well.. also.. historically, it was such an era. and actually it was much 'lessened' than it did at that time.) .. anyways.. hey! "MACHOS" .. kk

However, the movie motivated me to work-out much harder! haha..




ps. girls in the front row seemed to be so much impressed by the MUSCLES.. haha. they almost screamed whenever the muscles 'waved'.. >_<;; (so.. being a 'macho' movie wouldn't disturb too much for the girls, too.. ..??? )

ps2. it's rated R. so.. NO children. :D (and i agree that it should be R... and so sad that they don't check my id for movies anymore.)

however, the movie is quite biased to Spartan. (not just from Persia, but also from other Greek states.) although it's natural for a commercial movie.

The movie actually does not show (at least explicitly) the result of the sacrifice of 300 warriors (actually, should include 700 Thespians who also sacrificed, although the movie says that the Thespians retreats before the final battle.). The movie shows only the 'emotional' value of the sacrifice, which helped motivating the Spartan counsle to gear up for the war. (but the trigger was not the sacrifice, but the finding of 'evidence of bribe from Xerxes'..in the movie.)

However, the sacrifice of 300+700 was not in vain. It held the Persian army for three days, and the navy could prepare for the battle during the critical days, which was a decisive victory for the war. "CUT THE LOGISTICS!". yeap.. the logistics decides who wins the war.

Modern estimate says that the strength of Persian assault was slightly over 100,000. (1,000,000 seems to be an exaggeration of the winners, the Greek.)

To be realistic, Greek units are 'Heavy Armored' and Persians are 'Light Armored'. So you couldn't see their muscles so well... :D

overall..

A Great Depict of Battle of Thermopylae, although it has some historical flaws, it's a fun movie, not a history channel's documentary. :D


ps. 역사적 사실(혹은 전설)에 최대한 충실한 내용구성과, 과감히 리얼리티를 버려버리고 눈을 즐겁게하는 비쥬얼(중장보병이 갑옷은 어따 버렸니? ㅎㅎ)이 결합된 형태의 (실역사) 전쟁영화다. 피와 살과 뼈가 튀고 어느정도 섹슈얼한 영상들이 나오니까 애들 데려가 보는건 삼가하도록. ^^; 전쟁사 측면에서도 월등히 좋은 장비와 훈련을 받은 소수의 군이 지형이점을 이용해 대군을 상대로 방어하는게 가능함을 보여준 전투이기도 하다고 하니, 아니 왠 300명으로 100만 다굴을? 하고 괴로워할 필요는 없음. .. 실제로 100만이란 숫자도 승자(그리스)의 과장이라고 보는 견해가 많고, 요즘 사학자들의 추정은 MAX 15만/ 권장 10만이다. 그리스쪽의 길막기 한 인원도 300명이 아니라 1000명이고 (그중 300이 스파르타이긴 하지만. 영화에서같이 700이 중간에 도망간게 아니라 다같이 끝까지 싸우다 죽은듯..).. 뭐.. 그래도 1당100이긴 하네.. ㅋㅋㅋ 실제로도 지역주민의 배반으로 immortal(문명 시리즈 해본분들은 꽤나 눈에 익을듯..)들이 뒷다마 까기를 해서 길을 뚫었고.. 적의 보스(-_-)로 나오는 Xerxos도 뭐.. 싸우른 같은 악마는 아닌데, 그런식으로 표현을 한게 좀 맘을 불편하게 하지만, 스파르타 병사들에게야 당연히 악마..로 보였겠거니 하면 넘어가줄만 하기도 하다.. ^^;

ps2. 각개전투해대는 장면들 말고, 제대로 진형(그 유명한 Phalanx(팰렁스/팔랑크스)진형)잡고 싸우는 장면.. 특히 첨에 격돌해서 몸싸움하는거... ........ 너무 눈에 익은 장면 -_-;; 이었다 (전경 vs 시위대 -_-;;)

ps3. 그나저나 제대로 짜인 Phalanx진형에 정면으로.. 그것도 dense formation도 아니고 loose formation으로 돌격시키는 지휘관은 제정신인거야? ㅎㅎ... (뭐.. Xerxos도 제정신을 가진 녀석이니 바로 전술을 수정했겠지만..)

ps4. Xerxos의 최대 실책은 너무 diplomatic했거나 우유부단했다는 점인듯.. 실 역사에서 보니. 도데체 몇일을 항복하라고 "협박/회유/협상"하는데 낭비한거야? 그 시간동안 그리스애들이 전부 재정비하고 재편성해서 후방 보급선 끊고 ....보내버렸잖아. -_-; 어쩌면 재대로 훈련되지도 않고 장비도 제대로 되어있지 않은 대규모의 군대로 매우 불리하고 보급하기 까다로운 지형에 상륙해서 할 수 있는 유효한 방법이 별로 없었을 수도 있긴 하지만..
